
Degree requirements
Freshman seminars
With the exception of some students enrolled in a special program, all Weinberg College freshmen take two Freshman Seminars during their first three quarters of study. These classes feature a small class size and emphasize oral participation, the writing of research papers, and in-depth study of a particular topic. Past Freshman Seminar topics include: Shakespeare and Tragedy; The Crossroads of Biomedical and Research Ethics; Autobiography and Culture; HIV/AIDS in Global Perspective; and Introduction to Black Civil Rights Activism.
Distribution requirements
To ensure breadth of education, Weinberg College students take at least two quarter-long courses in each of the following areas:
- Natural sciences
- Formal studies (mathematics, logic, etc.)
- Social and behavioral sciences
- Historical studies
- Values (philosophy, religion, etc.)
- Literature and fine arts
Students are also expected to show proficiency in a foreign language equivalent to two years of college-level work.

Foreign Language Proficiency
WCAS graduates need to demonstrate proficiency in a classical or modern foreign language to receive their diplomas. Writing Proficiency
