
Secondary teaching
Successful completion of the secondary teaching program qualifies you for secondary teaching certification in Illinois. You may qualify also for provisional certification in another state. Certification endorsements can be earned in the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Economics with history
- English
- French
- German
- History
- Latin
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Political science with history
- Sociology with history
- Spanish
Students in the secondary teaching program must complete requirements in the following three areas:
- General
education
- Biological and physical sciences (4 courses, 1 with lab)
- Mathematics (2 courses)
- Social and behavioral sciences (4 courses)
- Humanities (6 courses)
- Communications (4 courses)
- Health and physical development (3 courses)
- Professional
education
- Human Development: Childhood and Adolescence
- Problems in the Philosophy of Education or History of Education in the United States
- Problems of the Exceptional Child or The Field of Special Education
- Methods and Techniques of Teaching at the Secondary Level
- Tutorial in Education: Coteaching
- Tutorial in Education: Student Teaching (4 courses)
- Teaching concentration (16 courses)
