What's inside your room
Furnishings
All our residences provide lounge and recreation space as well as modern laundry facilities. Student rooms are equipped with beds, desks, desk chairs, closets, chests of drawers, lamps, and draperies. We do not provide bed linens, bedspreads, or towels.
Phones
Each residence room is provided with a phone connection. You will be notified of your preassigned phone number when you receive your room assignment in July. The cost of phone service is included in the room rental charge, and there is no extra charge for calls made to Northwestern offices and residences. Long-distance service is provided by AT&T at discounted rates; the charges are billed individually to each student. You must provide your own telephone and answering machine.
Computers
Your room will have an Ethernet connection to the campus computer network and the global Internet. You can correspond with students and faculty at Northwestern and other universities worldwide through e-mail. The computer connection also provides access to the card catalog and other resources of the University library, campus telephone and address directory, and Northwestern web sites. To connect to the campus computer network, your computer must have sufficient memory and meet required specifications. You can also take advantage of numerous wireless access points across campus.
As a Northwestern undergraduate, you are not required to own a personal computer; however, if you wish to purchase one, wait until you receive information during the summer about computers that may be ordered through Northwestern at an educational discount. Computer labs are available also in several locations on campus.
If you have questions about connecting your computer to the campus computer network, contact the residential networking consultant in your residence hall or Technology Support Services (phone 847-467-ITSS).
