Northwestern University is a major private teaching and research institution. Founded in 1851, Northwestern is located in Evanston, IL, just north of Chicago on the western shore of Lake Michigan. For over 125 years, students from across the world have been coming to Evanston to be part of the Northwestern community. The University is now home to more than 2,300 undergraduate and graduate international students from nearly 100 different countries. By passing under the Northwestern arch, students enter a unique academic environment that fosters academic and extracurricular choice, collaboration among faculty and students, and an emphasis on improving human communication.
